NRL’s Optical Sciences Division is seeking a highly motivated Research Physicist to work in the Interferometric Optical Sensing section to develop state-of-the-art coherent optical sensors and imaging systems for applications in remote sensing. A prospective candidate should hold an advanced degree, preferably a PhD, in Physics, Electrical Engineering or Applied Physics with experience in optics and photonics. Experience in fiber optic sensing, LIDAR, digital holography, computational imaging, or compressive sensing would be particularly beneficial. The candidate should be capable of working both independently and as part of a team. Publication of research in the open literature and attendance of conferences will be strongly encouraged.
The Interferometric Sensing Section in NRL’s Optical Sciences Division develops high sensitivity optical sensing techniques and sensor system technologies that address current and future sensing needs of the Navy. Specific focus areas of the section include interferometric sensing technologies for undersea surveillance, interferometric multiplexing and demodulation techniques, distributed interferometric sensing for acoustic and seismic sensing, and remote sensing technology.
The Naval Research Lab, located in Washington DC, conducts research in a broad range of scientific and engineering disciplines of interest to the Navy. Candidates interested in pursuing a career in research are encouraged to apply.
Applicants should send a CV and the names of three references to Dr. Brandon Redding (email@example.com, 202-767-2174). For more information about NRL’s Post-Doc programs, please visit this website: https://www.nrl.navy.mil/careers/post-doc
Candidates must possess US Citizenship or US Permanent Residency at time of application. NRL is an equal opportunity employer.
