GS Plastic Optics is recruiting for a Single Point Diamond Turning Technician. This position is responsible for producing plastic lenses through the use of a precision CNC Lathe. Responsible for the set-up, programming and safe operation of Single Point Diamond Turning machining following established set-up, process and quality work instruction
Prepares SPDT programs for new processes and works with department and team to debug new processes
Design and build tools and fixtures for SPDT optical components
Work closely with other departments to improve efficiencies and throughput
Consults with technical team to determine methods of manufacturing, fixturing needs, inspection criteria
Performs routine preventative maintenance on the SPDT machine
Performs inspection of optical components for compliance to written specifications and works with Quality Assurance with metrics and testing
Documents processes and events
Supports tool room as needed
Required Skills and Experience:
Two to Three years Mastercam and Diffsys Single Point Diamond Turning programming
Metrology including use and understanding of standard measuring equipment in addition to a Profilometer, non-contact OGP, interferometer etc.
Must have experience in the use of Lathes, Mills, Grinders, etc.
Ability to use relevant computer applications: MS Office, MS Outlook, Master Cam, CNC programming
Five to ten years of hands on Mold making or CNC lathe machining
Strong knowledge of SPDT machine
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to troubleshoot programs and make adjustments on machine to correct surfaces
Advanced math skills
Must have strong attention to detail and continually seek to improve work processes
Understand CNC programming and have the ability to create and/or modify CNC programs.
Document processes and work instructions for diamond tuning operation.
Ability to read and understand both optical and traditional blue prints. Ability to follow directions
Must have excellent decision making abilities
Good time management skills
Optical Testing experience a must
