This position is expected to utilize all technologies available within Thorlabs to develop the optimal process for manufacturing optical lenses as well as train other technicians in various CNC and conventional processes.
Essential Job Functionsinclude the following, but are not limited to:
Perform all aspects of CNC and conventional optical fabrication including grinding, polishing, surfacing, cleaning and inspection
Set up and adjustment of CNC and conventional machinery from supplied data without supervision
Design and installs all required tooling from tooling data and set-up instructions
Select and adjust tooling changes as needed without supervision
Read and understand spec sheets, blue prints, work orders and work instructions
Perform visual inspections of optics for defects related to fabrication.
Perform optical tests including interferometry and profilometer tests to determine optical quality
Perform cleaning operations to keep work area machinery maintained
5 years minimum experience in CNC machining of precision optical components is preferred.
15 years minimum experience in conventional optics manufacturing
Manual machine shop milling and turning experience is a plus
High school diploma or GED.
High School diploma or equivalent required, AA or BA/BS degree is desirable
Specialized Knowledge and Skills:
Understand all aspects of blue prints
Good manual dexterity
Proficient math skills
Ability to follow directions
Good communication skills
Analytical troubleshooting / problem solving
Basic computer skills, including familiarity and use of Microsoft Office applications
Good hand / eye coordination
