Precision Optics Corporation, a medical device engineering and manufacturing firm in Gardner, MA is seeking an Opto-Mechanical Manufacturing Engineer. Reporting to Operations and Engineering Managers, the successful candidate will have a strong background in designing new optical/mechanical/electronic assemblies for efficient manufacture and in optimizing manufacturing procedures for existing products. They will have a proven track record of designing and implementing improved tooling, fixturing and procedures, as well as updating designs to improve production efficiencies. At Precision Optics, they will be the company's primary technical resource for evaluating and improving product designs for efficient manufacture.
This position will provide the right candidate with an opportunity to work with a small, world-class, highly technical and accomplished team of engineers, fabrication and assembly personnel, to help design and produce next generation micro-optic and electro-optic products used in medical and defense application. They will participate in the development of innovative products based on the company's proprietary Microprecision™ optics with sizes on the order of 1mm and smaller, in many cases combined with micro-CMOS imagers.
Responsibilities and Duties
Specific responsibilities will include:
Identify and eliminate sources of waste in production processes and identify methods for more efficient manufacture
Work with Operations to streamline materials handling and organization of production facilities
Work as part of engineering design team to design and analyze manufacturability of new products
Respond to concerns / suggestions identified by assembly technicians
Generate & update manufacturing procedures and Device Master Record
Maintain procedures & documentation using company Engineering Change Request process
Design and manage construction of tooling & fixtures required to improve production yield or efficiency
As part of engineering design team, interface with customers to explore specification / manufacturability trade offs
Interface with vendors to identify methods for reducing cost of materials
Develop automation and other systems for high volume production

Qualifications and Skills
Candidates will have a degree in Manufacturing, Optical or Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or a closely related field and at least 7 years' experience in a manufacturing environment, including the design and / or production optimization of products used in the medical device or defense industry. The ideal candidate will also have experience with some or all of the following: electro-optics and digital imaging, electrical engineering, micro-optics, software development, SolidWorks, AutoCAD, CodeV and Zemax. Additional qualifications include experience with lean manufacturing techniques, as well as an understanding of ISO, FDA and ITAR regulations.
