The position is the primary technical resource for TQE’s OEM and Catalog customers and responsible for actively driving and managing the technology evaluation stage of the sales process. The position works in conjunction with the Thorlabs’ global sales and customer service teams as the key technical advisor and product advocate for TQE technology. The Applications Engineer must be able to identify and provide reliable solutions for all technical issues to assure complete customer satisfaction through all stages of the sales process. Although the location of the position is in Jessup, MD, from time to time it may be required to undertake duties at other Thorlabs locations.
Essential Job Functionsinclude the following, but are not limited to:
Provide ‘first-response’ technical support for all TQE products
Perform hands-on product testing in support of customer inquiries
Use customer data and feedback to contribute product/service ideas or improvements
Actively contribute to design, evaluation and review of new products
Coordinate the design of tradeshow set-ups that resonate with Customers
Support Marketing and Sales activities by attending Tradeshows including setting up/take down of demos if needed and making Customer visits
Organize product and market training of the team in US and worldwide entities
Track performance metrics: e.g. quote conversion rate, OEM sales
Be the “single voice” to the customer for ongoing price, NCR, and commercial interactions
Actively promote OEM opportunities, keep supervisor and TQE management closely informed of such opportunities and respond to functional and technical elements of RFIs/RFPs
Coordinate and prepare quotes and proposals for new business opportunities
Identify customers for targeted sales promotions and onsite visits
Utilize Axapta/CRM tools to capture customer data and Activities
US Persons/Green Card Holders:
Ability to work on ITAR related product(s)
Minimum 2 years of experience in a similar position preferred.
Master’s Degree in Science, Engineering, Physics, Optics or equivalent
Specialized Knowledge and Skills:
Proficiency in MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint.
Working knowledge of a drawing software tool such as MS Visio, AutoCAD, Solidworks, or equivalent preferred.
Strong communication proficiency
Strong problem solving capability
