The Operations Manager is a key member of the leadership team and is responsible for leading and managing the manufacturing team. This position will oversee the manufacturing team including production, supply chain, scheduling and facilities. Responsibilities will include participating in the development and ultimately meeting operating plan objectives. In addition, this position is responsible for implementing and maintaining a culture of customer focus, continuous improvement and adhering to the core values of Hardin Optical Company. As part of the Hardin Optical leadership team, this role will help develop and implement the company’s strategic objectives.
Manages the manufacturing team which includes production, supply chain, scheduling and facilities to support meeting our customer requirements.
Work with the leadership team (including Business Development, Finance, HR, Quality, Engineering) to develop annual operating plans and participate in the development and implementation of the company’s strategic plans.
Provide leadership and mentoring to the Operation teams to include training and development plans and performance reviews. Maintain a culture of continuous improvement and customer focus.
Interface directly with the Business Development team to support new business initiatives and efforts.
Manages and determines the resources required to achieve production capacity targets while ensuring consistent on time delivery.
Identify key metrics for the Operations team and routinely and consistently report them to the leadership and operations teams. This will include any changes required to meet established targets.
Oversees the scheduling for each (business) area ensuring customer requirements are routinely achieved. This will include a task list and priorities that is communicated routinely to the appropriate Production Supervisor.
Oversees work instructions and related documentation. Review and approve work instructions from Production Supervisors.
Reviews and approves any changes to production processes.
Works collaboratively with all production support functions in developing and implementing process improvement initiatives.
Responsible to implement, promote, review, and continually improve the effectiveness of the Quality Management System.
Bachelor’s degree with emphasis in an optical field is preferred.
Previous leadership experience in a lean manufacturing production environment. Prefer at least 7-10 years’ experience in precision optical manufacturing with a minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in management.
Expertise with Lean Manufacturing, Six-Sigma, Quality Management Systems and ISO.
Strong understanding of optics fab processes.
Strategic thinker, planner, able to drive continuous improvement and achieve results.
Highly organized, accurate and detail oriented.
General mechanical, assembly, and trouble-shooting aptitude
Team oriented with strong interpersonal and strong communication skills.
Ability to prioritize daily tasks and projects to meet company needs and deadlines.
Proficiency in the use of personal computers including MS Outlook, Excel, and Word.
