LASER COMPONENTS Detector Group, Inc. is looking for an Engineering Manager for our manufacturing location in Tempe, AZ, USA. The Engineering Manager will be part of a dynamic team with over fourteen years of experience in the design and manufacturing of high performance avalanche photodiodes (APDs) and PINs, high speed receivers, linear arrays, TE- cooled photoconductors, and pyroelectric detectors. In a state-of-the-art production facility, our devices are processed with different materials including, silicon, InGaAs, lead salts, and pyroelectrics.
The Engineering Manager position is associated with a high level of responsibility. In this role Candidate will lead the Engineering Department in coaching, guiding and facilitating, and developing collaborative relationships among employees themselves, as well as with customers, suppliers and other functional groups to ensure goals are achieved. The goal is to create and maintain an organizational climate / culture which encourages innovation, collaboration, excitement / commitment and a sense of urgency towards business success.
In his position as Engineering Manager, Candidate will be also accountable for managing an annual department expense budget and a capital improvement budget as well as support customer business related activities including contributing to proposals and customer technical presentations.
Summary of essential job functions
Manage the coordination and overall integration of technical activities in the Company.
Direct, review, or approve project design changes.
Coordinate with management, production, R&D or sales staff to discuss project specifications or procedures.
Present and explain proposals, reports, or findings.
Supports Sales with negotiations and preparation of clients’ project specifications.
Prepare budgets, bids, or contracts.
Assess project(s) feasibility by analyzing technology, resource needs, and with Sales help market demand.
Direct recruitment, placement, and evaluation of engineering project staff.
Review, recommend, or approve contracts or cost estimates.
Develop or implement policies, standards, or procedures for engineering and technical work.
Plan or direct the installation, testing, operation, maintenance, or repair of facilities or equipment.
Perform administrative functions, such as reviewing or writing reports, approving expenditures, enforcing rules, or purchasing of materials or services.
Supervise and lead engineers, scientists and technicians who design detector/material structures, electro-optical testing and oversee production and quality control.
Coordinate research and development of new products and fabrication procedures.
University degree in Physics, Chemistry, Engineering Physics, Electronics or Material Sciences with appropriate emphasis on semiconductors materials used for IR sensors fabrications.
Ph.D. diploma or five years related working experience in the field of infrared detection.
Willingness to work in a dynamic, flexible and evolving environment.
Knowledge of Solid State physics and understanding of semiconductor devices, photo detectors in particular.
Familiarity with operation of equipment and procedures used in fabrication and characterization of electro-optical components.
Understanding of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources modeling, leadership technique, production methods, and coordination of people and resources.
Knowledge of production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods.
Familiarity with relevant equipment, policies, procedures, and strategies to promote effective local, state, or national security operations for the protection of people, data, property, and institutions.
