Main responsibilities: The Process Engineer / Fiber draw tower will support manufacturing of optical fiber products, improve upon existing manufacturing processes, implement and support quality control operations, improve process yields, and reduce manufacturing costs.
Proceed with the requisition of equipment, consumables and spare parts to ensure adequate supply and an efficient inventory for fiber production.
Acquisition, installation and operation of production equipment required for the fiber draw.
Acquisition, installation and operation of production equipment for the rod/tube glass extruder.
Complete all reports and documents to ensure production control and production monitoring.
Perform fiber drawing to meet the required specifications of the fiber to produce.
Should be able to work in man-lifts above floor level.
Must be comfortable working with and around chemicals and molten glass.
Portion of work in class 10,000 clean rooms.
Ensure maintenance of all equipment and tools used in the fiber draw section.
Perform calibration of equipment and other apparatus used in the fiber draw section.
Establish working procedures related to the fiber draw section.
Coordinate and implement quality control objectives, activities, or procedures to resolve production problems, maximize product reliability, or minimize costs.
Conduct business intelligence technology required to maintain our technological edge in relation to production equipment, work procedures and work techniques.

Knowledge, skills and abilities required:
B.S. in mechanical or chemical engineering, ceramics, material science, physics, or other related experience combination.
1-5 years with high-tech or high volume fiber manufacturing experience preferred.
Possess knowledge of process-development principles, practices, and procedures to understand the theoretical and technical problems/issues involved in fiber production: glass melting, chemistry and mechanical property of optical fiber.
Have the ability to manage multiple projects using both technical and business skills to achieve goals.
Have good computer knowledge (Word, Excel, PowerPoint...) with strong written and verbal communication skills.
Be very thorough, conscientious, and detail-oriented.
Confidence and willingness to voice opinions in a constructive manner.
Energetic, highly motivated, team-oriented.
Due to the nature of our work in the government contract research area, U.S. Citizenship or permanent resident status is a firm requirement.
