Three plus years of hands-on Optical design experience
Reports to: Director, New Products
Primary Responsibility: Design and modeling of complex opto-electro-mechanical modules and subassemblies for Aerospace & Defense, Semiconductor Capital Equipment and other applications.
Leading optical design and modeling from concept to mature product design.
Leading development of custom assembly and metrology tooling and fixtures.
Being a part of cross-functional engineering team consisting of Program Managers, Mechanical, Electrical, Thin Film Design, Process, Product, Quality, Metrology and Sustaining engineers and technicians.
Supporting Sales and Business Development Team in winning new business. Interacting with key customers at every stage of the process, starting from feasibility analysis & quote generation and through troubleshooting of mature products in production.
Presenting design and modeling data during Design Reviews (both internal and with customers present).
Mentoring junior engineers and technicians.
Supporting various other activities related to winning new business, developing new products, launching them into production and managing them through product lifecycle.

Subject matter expert in Optical Design and Modeling. Extensive experience (minimum 15 years) designing imaging and non-imaging optical systems. Extensive experience in tolerance analysis, DFM and DFR. Expert in Optical Design Software (Zemax, Code V, FRED, etc.)
Minimum BS in Optical Engineering/Optical Physics or closely related field. Advanced degree preferred.
Experience in designing modules and subsystems for Aerospace & Defense and for semiconductor market segments is highly desirable.
Experience in FEA/Multiphysics analysis is highly desirable.
Open to ambiguity and comfortable working in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment.
Strong leadership and communication skills.
Experience working on cross-functional teams.
Experience in customer-facing roles is a plus.

About Research Electro Optics/Excelitas Technologies
What is now REO originally formed in 1980 as the electro-optics division of Particle Measuring Systems, a manufacturer of laser based contamination measurement instruments. During this period we developed substantial expertise in the manufacture of HeNe lasers, superpolished optical surfaces and high performance thin film coatings using ion beam sputtering technology. This led to an ever increasing level of business outside of PMS. REO was then established as a separate company in 1993 so that we could more effectively serve and pursue business with external customers.
