The successful candidate will contribute to take LightSmyth/Finisar Oregon’s Manufacturing to the next level by:
Work with optical engineers to develop and transfer to manufacturing automated test equipment for diffractives optical performance testing. This includes:
Hardware design including identifying optimal motion control and machine vision equipment
Designing alignment methods and algorithms
Contributing to fixture mechanical design based on identified tolerance requirements
Developing control software for motion control, data acquisition and processing
Automating product data entry and creation of reports and product labels
Database organization of test data enabling statistical process control desired

Knowledge of precision motion control systems required, knowledge of machine vision desired
Experience with automating motion and instrument control, data acquisition and processing using LABVIEW, MATLAB, PLCs or other
Demonstrated ability to provide innovative solutions to complex mechanical tasks
Understanding of the principles and methods required to precisely align optical components in test setups or for testing to high tolerances preferred
Organizing, processing and storing data in data bases (MS Access, MES, SQL or other) a plus
Educational requirements: B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics or other science or engineering discipline with relevant experience
Experience: 3 years
