In this position you will be responsible for mechanical design and development of optical subassemblies for a medical diagnostic Brillouin spectroscopy system. You will perform simulation, optimization, and detailed analysis of components in SolidWorks to bring current clinically-tested research systems to final marketed product design. Working closely with a team multidisciplinary engineers as well as vendors, you will use your strong product development experience to conceptualize product configurations and robust opto-mechanical designs for highly sensitive and tightly toleranced instrumentation. Your hands-on skills will be an asset in both creating design specifications, mechanical drawings, assembly procedures, and testing system performance.
In this fast-paced startup environment you will need excellent interpersonal skills, communication/documentation, and ability to collaboratively and responsively, focusing on key priorities based on new information and product development timeline. This role is based in our new state-of-the-art innovation center, located in Boston, MA.
Create part drawings, assembly drawings, and models in Solidworks 3D CAD
Execute design reviews, manage bills of materials, and create necessary documentation per ISO 13485 regulations
Work with electrical, optical, systems, software, and industrial design engineers to integrate subsystems into designs.
Interface with suppliers or outside engineering groups as necessary to complete projects

Expertise in Solidworks CAD
Graduate degree in Mechanical Engineering
5+ yr industry experience mechanical or optomechanical system design in a tightly regulated environment (e.g. medical device, defense, aviation/automotive).
Strong experience in precision optical design principles, tolerance analysis, vibration isolation, and design for thermal/mechanical environmental protection
Proficiency and proven track record in design for manufacturing of complex and tightly toleranced system and subassemblies
Generate precision tooling and test fixtures for testing of opto- and electro- mechanical
Ability to perform FEA stress and thermal analysis
Preferred Additional Qualifications
Graduate or post-graduate training in optomechanical system design practices
Experience in one or more of the following: spectroscopy, interferometry, laser-based scanners, or camera imaging systems
Strong preference for candidates with experience translating optical simulations into real-world mechanically robust designs
Familiarity with optical design analysis and technical considerations
Experience in thermodynamic simulation tools (e.g. COMSOL).
Experience using computer-aided straylight analysis tools (e.g. TracePro or LensMechanix)
Design and tooling for high volume manufacturing
