The College of Optics and Photonics at the University of Central Florida invites applicants for a postdoctoral associate position. This is a 2-year appointment. The selected applicant will be working on a project in laser processing of composite materials, under the supervision of Professors Xiaoming Yu and Aravinda Kar. The applicant will be responsible for designing, implementing and testing a prototype laser micromachining system for high-speed cutting of thin composite sheets.
Ph.D. from an accredited institution in Engineering, Physics, Optical Sciences or other related fields.
Significant experience in laser material processing.
Proficiency in LabView, Matlab, or other coding languages.
Knowledge in laser-matter interaction.
Experience with ultrafast (femtosecond and/or picosecond) lasers.
Skills for free-space alignment of high-power laser.
Skills for sample characterization using optical microscopes, SEM, AFM, etc.
Good understanding of lasers, optics, and material sciences.
