The ideal candidate possesses a strong background in optics and photonics applications and is responsible for providing technical project support to Thorlabs OEM Customers. The OEM Technical Project Manager will serve as a direct consultant to Thorlabs OEM customers. Working with Thorlabs sales engineers, project managers and sales coordinators, the Technical Project Manager acts as the liaison between highly technical customer project teams and the engineering teams within Thorlabs. The TPM acts as a direct consultant to OEM customers that are working to identify the best components and subassemblies to enable their own product development.
Essential Job Functionsinclude the following, but are not limited to:
Provide sales and technical support to Thorlabs OEM Sales Team as well as directly to OEM customers
Demonstrate expert knowledge and problem-solving abilities in providing technical support to customers who purchase from our extensive product portfolio
Visits Thorlabs OEM customers to support sales engineers and project managers as a product solutions expert
Leverage industry expertise and strong customer relationships to identify and qualify additional business opportunity as customer needs grow
Understand and safe guard the business case with respect to cost and schedule
Work with the sales coordinators and supply chain to ensure timely delivery of customer’s goods and ensure that customers are aware of product obsolescence and end of life issues
Support Marketing and Sales activities by attending Tradeshows and Customer visits
Participate in managing the development of Thorlabs by being part of an interactive internal development forum
Train new team members by passing on technical and project skills to the growing group of Thorlabs OEM Project Managers
Travel to visit key customer/accounts as well as attend tradeshows as required by business unit (estimated travel ~25%)
Ability to work on ITAR related product(s)
Minimum 3 years of experience in a similar position preferred
Requires an advanced degree (M.S. or Ph.D.) in physics, optical or electrical engineering.
Specialized Knowledge and Skills:
Ability to discuss concepts in optics/physics at a high level and properly communicate these concepts to internal engineering and production teams.
Hands on experience with photonics technologies in a lab or R&D setting is preferred.
Excellent leadership, analysis, facilitation, and client relationship skills.
Exceptional organizational skills.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Advanced project management skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio) required.
MS Project & MRP/ERP systems; preferred
Project Management Professional certificate (PMP); preferred
