A Senior Optical Quality Technician is responsible for optical testing and assembly tasks, maintaining optical testing lab equipment, developing QA processes and managing resources and schedules to support production and R&D work. The candidate must be proficient in standard optical testing techniques and the use of optical testing equipment including interferometers, spectrometers and auto-collimators. Familiarity with QA principles, ISO optical quality standards and optical component specifications will also be important. This position is hands-on and requires a high proficiency in working with small and sensitive components, bonding compounds and precision tools. The candidate must be very detail oriented and committed to maintaining the highest quality standards.
1. Perform incoming quality testing and inspection of optical components using interferometers and other testing equipment 2. Perform outgoing inspection and customer required documentation on completed products 3. Perform specialized optical assembly procedures including optical contact and component bonding 4. Manage production jobs related to optical components 5. Monitor due dates and work with colleagues on completing required tasks in a timely manner 6. Supervise and train optical technicians as needed 7. Develop and implement quality processes as needed 8. Develop inspection procedures to maximize product quality and efficiency 9. Prepare DMR, RMA, CAR reports for non-conforming optical components and other QA functions 10. Maintain up-to-date calibration records for in-house equipment and schedule calibration services 11. Work with engineering and other production staff on prototypes and development projects 12. Prepare completed products for shipping 13. Comply with all Standard Operating Procedures 14. Foster a cooperative and positive work environment
• Proficiency in using precision hand tools and measuring equipment • Proficiency in using optical testing equipment such as spectrometers, autocollimators and interferometers • Handling, cleaning and working with optical components such as lenses and prisms • Handling electronic and ESD sensitive materials • Reading mechanical prints and specifications • Understanding optical specifications • Understanding quality control (QC) principles and procedures in a production environment • Word processing and spreadsheet programs to collect data and document processes • Maintaining a clean and organized work space • Working responsibly with minimal supervision • Following laboratory safety rules and regulations • Working cooperatively with others in a small technical team environment • Being punctual for work days, assignments, and tasks
