The Optical System Engineer is responsible for the design and optimization of optical systems throughout Chroma and 89 North. This includes designing and building our own test and measurement stations as well as supporting both 89 North and Chroma sales in understanding customer systems.
Optical system design and optimization to include:
Products produced or distributed by 89 North
Test and measurement systems used by both Chroma and 89 North
Lens design, as necessary
Build and test prototype optical systems including those to be used internally and those to be sold to customers
Support sales and application engineering with optical know-how to better understand how our filters are used and better serve our customers
Identify opportunities for products or markets for 89 North and Chroma’s optical capabilities
Participate as needed in R&D of new capabilities for Chroma and 89 North
Be the primary optical modeler, supplying other parts of the organization with optical designs and consultation
Collaborate with systems and product engineers at Chroma and 89 North to develop optical solutions
Collaborate to develop suppliers of optical components in the US and abroad
Bachelor’s degree in physics, optics or similar field (advanced degree highly preferred)
Minimum 5 years of experience developing optical systems, less with an advanced degree
Experience with optical modeling software
Familiarity with a broad range of optical suppliers
Demonstrated ability to integrate systems
Experience with solid modeling software
Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with co-workers, customers and suppliers
