Scope of work:
Corning is seeking a highly capable Mechanical or Chemical Engineer for advancing our capabilities in fiber and cable manufacturing processes. You will be asked to present with a strong foundation in fluid mechanics, viscous flow, heat transfer, and numerical modeling. You will be required to possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills for working with globally distributed researchers and process engineers.
Day to Day Responsibilities:
You will work in partnership with materials scientists, process engineers, and optical physicists
You will use modeling to help understand the performance of existing and proposed processes, and to interpret the data from process experiments.
Develop new modeling tools and capabilities as needed and collaborate with experimentalists to verify models, and to use them to address practical process problems
You will have the opportunity to take the lead in small technical teams to perform the listed responsibilities above, if you possess and display the adequate prior experience
Travel Requirements: Occasional domestic and international travel. Expected travel time 10%.
Hours of work/work schedule/flex-time: Full time (40 hours per week) but flexibility required given the globally dispersed nature of the team.

PhD in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline
Ability to travel domestically and internationally on occasion; expected travel time 10%.
Possess expertise in CFD and heat transfer & commercial CFD and FEA software such as ANSYS and Comsol
Present with expertise in polymer and glass material behaviors
Program in languages such as C, C++, Fortran, and Python
Collaborate well with experimentalists and other modelers
Familiarity with Linux
Work experience in an industrial R&D setting
Familiarity with standard software development practices: version control, test suites, etc.
