LightSmyth/Finisar seeks a talented, optical design and optical testing engineer whose duties will be the design and testing of innovative new optical devices enabled by high resolution (sub wavelength) semiconductor fabrication tools.
Such devices, sometimes also referred to as metamaterial devices, comprise a new field offering intellectual challenge and opportunity to make lasting ground floor contributions while at the same time supporting the development and introduction of paradigm shifting products.
Master’s degree in optics, (Ph.D preferred) optical physics, or related field with a minimum of three years related industry experience, or
PhD degree in optics, optical physics, or related field with extensive laboratory experience as part of degree program.
Desired Experience: Familiarity with software packages such as Zeemax , Matlab, FDTD analysis, diffractive optics design software. Laboratory test and measurement ability as related to passive optical device testing and characterization. Familiarity with diffractive processes, semiconductor fabrication processes, SEM testing. A successful candidate will be expected to design, direct manufacture, and test innovative new passive optical devices. In each aspect, the candidate will be called upon to innovate and invent appropriate procedures and methods requiring deep insight into the underlying optical physics.
Work Function: Work with existing staff to accelerate the design, fabrication, and testing of new optical components supportive of Finisar’s overall mission. Ultimately, the position may evolve to providing leadership in the development area.
