AOS is seeking an experienced Optical Systems Engineer to participate in the development of advanced optical metrology systems. The successful candidate must have a detailed understanding of hardware engineering with demonstrated experience developing optical systems. Define complete optical systems requirements and specifications, integration plans, and test procedures
Perform analytical design of opto-mechanical and/or electro-optical systems
Create and maintain a detailed requirements test matrix
Create and maintain a top down and bottom up error budgets
Coordinate with other technical team members on experimental design problems
Provide practical, hands-on skills in working with engineers and technicians in a lab environment
Setup and operate metrology instrumentation, including collecting and reducing data
Work with electrical and mechanical engineers to debug systems and evaluate performance
Document and demonstrate solutions and results by developing reports, diagrams, charts, etc.
Protect operations by keeping information confidential
Job Skills and Qualifications:
Ability to architect, specify, and test complex optical systems
Understanding of performance testing and validation of optical systems and components
Hands-on experience with lasers, opto-mechanical and electro-optic components and systems
Familiarity with metrology instruments, including data collection and reduction software
Experience with optical metrology instrumentation highly desirable
Strong problem solving and communications skills
Experience in producing typical report packages, such as CoDR, PDR, CDR
Optical Design experience with Zemax software highly desirable
Analytical experience with MATLAB software highly desirable
Master’s Degree or PhD in Optics or similar fields, with 7 or more years of experience working with optical systems
Demonstrated ability to design, specify, build and test complex optical systems
Candidates must be a US person under ITAR regulations
