The Role: Xylem seeks to hire an Electrical Engineer. As part of the Advanced Technology and Innovation Team, the successful candidate will become an integral member of a high performing, cross-disciplinary team. The environment is fast-paced, with high expectations to produce results in innovative optical sensor design for water quality monitoring. This team serves the needs and requirements of international businesses across Xylem. Communication skills, close, daily collaboration, and a positive attitude are keys to success in this position. This position requires the ability to apply broad engineering expertise in the development of the next generation of advanced optical sensors to help solve some of the most challenging global water issues. This requires the candidate to design, develop, and troubleshoot high accuracy, low power electronic circuits and PCB assemblies for use in Xylem optical sensors that will function as a platform for a host of new field deployable products.
Job Responsibilities: •Design and develop analog and digital embedded electronic circuits to meet performance, cost, assembly, test, packaging, and project schedule objectives for assigned projects. •Work closely with Mechanical, Embedded Software, and Research personnel to develop small integrated designs with maximum performance. •Conduct laboratory experiments to test novel ideas. •Hands-on experience is important for success on this team •Willingness to self-start and execute design of experiments •Detailed team reviews of results are required •Specify and source prototype components, assist with prototype assembly, debug prototype assemblies. •Enter schematics into CAD system and/or support PCB design efforts by others. •Support and conduct testing activities to verify performance versus requirements of components and systems developed. •Develop and maintain relationships with vendors for key components •Document the concepts, design, testing, and analysis for electronic circuits developed. •Practice diligence in documenting progress, concepts, designs, results in wiki-style format using documentation tools available to enhance team collaboration. •Conduct / participate in technical design reviews. •Design products to meet CE and UL requirements. •Assist in identifying and initiating technical projects/programs that will lead to product innovation and/or improvements. •Expectation is to stay on the forefront of technology and generate IP individually or as collaboration with the team. •Must have the ability to work cross functionally with local and international team members •Must have the ability to work closely with small, cross functional, fast-paced team with minimal supervision akin to a start-up environment. •Provide electrical engineering expertise to Manufacturing, Quality, and Purchasing to help solve production problems, resolve performance issues, and procure electronic components
BS or MS in electrical engineering.
Minimum 5 years electrical engineering experience.
High level of expertise in analog circuit design specific to optical systems and highly integrated designs
High level of expertise in low power system design to meet the needs of the most challenging battery powered applications.
Proven competency in shielding, noise mitigation, and high gain optical receiver circuit design.
Competency in digital signal processing desirable.
Ability to work with local and international teams of engineers and scientists.
Ability to conduct experiments to take an idea or novel approach from conception to prototype.
Ability to communicate clearly to technical group written and verbally.
Ability to document and communicate progress and ideas in well-organized fashion to a group.
Strong analytical skills.
Ability to work with a cross-functional team of engineers and scientists.
Ability to work in a product development, quality and manufacturing team environment.
Strong organizational skills – attention to detail and ability to multi-task.
Strong awareness to stay connected with team members and follow-up with requests.
Ability to use solder workstation equipment for assembly and rework of high density surface mount components and boards desirable.
Ability to utilize basic bench-top equipment such as oscilloscopes and meters during development phases to analyze firmware interaction with hardware
Ability to rapidly assess new technology and determine potential for use in Xylem Inc. products.
Proficient in the use of information technology tools such as email, Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
Knowledge of EMC design and testing practices required.
Knowledge of embedded programming in C desirable.
Ability to design using electronic CAD software tools for schematic design required; specific knowledge of Altium desirable.
Knowledge and experience in PCB layout especially using Altium a bonus.
Knowledge and experience with LabView a bonus.
Knowledge of the electronic circuit design process.
Knowledge of engineering documentation practices.
Ability to understand and work with embedded software teams for product development.
Knowledge of Quality Systems, ISO-9000, QS-9000 desirable
Oracle experience desirable
Knowledge and experience with Python programming language a bonus
